The Amigos de Música group has announced two “brilliant artists” from England will be coming to Portugal again to perform in the Algarve.
Acclaimed virtuoso clarinettist Sarah Williamson will be accompanied by pianist Viv McLean for two performances at the auditorium of Os Agostos near Santa Bárbara de Nexe, Faro.
The first, on Tuesday, May 16, will see the duo presenting works by Francis Poulenc, Frédéric Chopin, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms, while the second, on May 16, will see the musicians interpreting pieces by Joseph Horovitz, Carl Mania v. Weber, Johannes Brahms and Georges Gershwin.
Sarah Williamson achieved international fame following her success in the BBC Young Musician Competition 2002, playing the Copland Clarinet Concerto with the BBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Sir Andrew Davis.
Sarah went on to win second prize in the Eurovision Competition for Young Musicians in Berlin, again playing the Copland Concerto, this time with the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Marek Janowsky.
Sarah continued her studies at Le Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique et de Dance de Paris, graduating with a Premier Prix. As a soloist, Sarah has performed at many of the world’s major concert halls.
Doors will open at 6.00pm and the concert will begin at 7.00pm. Wine, fruit juices and canapés will be available for self-service before the concert.

The Amigos de Música is an international group of around 120 members who stage musical activities by internationally renowned musicians and sponsor young Portuguese musicians. It is a non-profit organisation and celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2021.
