The National Councillor of CHEGA and “principal figure in the party’s Council of Oliveira do Hospital, allegedly “pursued an internal rival, destroyed his car and threatened his life with a knife”. João Rogério Silva has been accused by the Public Prosecutor’s Office of the crimes of damage and aggravated threat. According to reports, this all stems from the aspirations of another member of the Council – António Cardoso – to take over from Silva. “Feeling threatened”, João Silva went on his alleged attack, and has, apparently, admitted as much to authorities. It is just the latest account of bizarre behaviour by people within the CHEGA hierarchy. Cardoso is understood to have said “these people”, when they want to perpetuate themselves in politics and see someone uncomfortable “are capable of murder”.
