A whole year after the October 7 massacre it appears that ‘Portuguese-Israeli citizen Idan Shti-vi’ was killed a year ago, not taken hostage as originally believed. Outgoing Israeli ambassador to Portugal, Dor Shapira, announced earlier today that “Idan Shtivi was murdered on October 7, and his body was taken to Gaza”. Idan will have been one of thousands of Israelis who succeeded in getting Portuguese nationality under the ‘Sephardic Jew amnesty’ that subsequently fell under a cloud. Portugal’s ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its “deep dismay” over the news, sending “heartfelt condolences” to the young man’s family.
