António Costa is a bad choice for Europe, says CHEGA

In antithesis to the expressions of joy and enthusiastic anticipation from almost every other quarter, CHEGA leader André Ventura and two fellow MPs gave a press conference today to stress that their position is that António Costa’s election to the presidency of the Council of Europe is a “bad choice for Europe and the world”. Looking sombre, the group faced journalists as Ventura explained his party “cannot understand” how if Costa was a bad choice for Portugal, he could be a good choice for Europe…”We are at the opposite ends of the spectrum to António Costa in terms of what he sees as the fight against corruption, in the defence of a Europe with borders and not completely uncontrolled immigration, in a Europe with a strong common security policy and not a weak one, and in that sense we couldn’t be further from António Costa in terms of what the European project should be,” said Ventura.
