APA vetoes renewal of ‘environmental impact declaration’ for Montijo airport

Years of opposition appears to have finally paid off: APA (the Portuguese environment agency) has announced that it will not be ‘renewing’ the expired environmental impact declaration ‘won’ by the deeply unpopular plan to transform Montijo airbase into a busy passenger terminal (to relieve Lisbon’s city airport). This plan was always something championed by ANA airports authority, and some airlines (namely Ryanair), but it doesn’t seem to have worked in their favour. Say reports this afternoon: “the Montijo option seems to be distancing itself further from the choices for the location of the new Lisbon airport”.
