The Association for Protection of Animals Algarve’s 2023 Calendar is a special one as each month has been sponsored by a member with a photo of their pets together with a write-up.
TJ Hudson wrote: “We rescued Billy from a pet shop when he was 10 months old.” Happy, sorrowful thoughts from each of our sponsors.
TJ adds: “Sadly, he crossed the rainbow bridge in July 2022. My house is empty but full of wonderful memories of our fur baby. RIP Billy, we miss you.”
TJ and others are thus successfully raising money to pay for APAA’s costly SNiP venture.
The association’s Spaying and Neutering Programme does what it says on the tin! Abandoned animals need to be treated by vets and, once they have had the “cut”, need re-homing. The €6 calendar is a real cutie, like ‘Rover’, a calendar lad!
Upcoming events
APAA’s ‘Pop-Ups’ are great too. You can pop-in and pop-out again, but most prefer to linger, browse, stop for a drink, snack or lunch. The next adventure will be this Saturday, October 22 at O Pescador, Figueira (Mexilhoeira Grande), off the EN125. There is generous car parking. Special menu at €10 all inclusive (book direct 961 043 053). This venue will be a special collectables, ornaments, pictures event. Also, APAA Calendars and Gill Goode-designed 4x-pack Christmas Cards (€5) will be on sale.
Next up on the calendar will be Jolly’s Bar in Alvor on Wednesday, November 2. Anita, our Pop-Up Persona, will be welcoming you between 11am and 3pm. This time it’ll be more festive, leaning towards Christmas and stocking fillers. Also on display will be household items and gadgets, and there is always pet stuff.
On Thursday, November 10, from 12 noon to 3pm, there is another hot date to mark up at O Tasco in Senhora do Verde. Always a good choice of ‘prato do dia’ (dish of the day) on the lunch menu (book direct on 282 471 769).
Christmas is coming
Whether you are prepared for the season to be jolly or not, now is the time to start getting the specials in. APAA will be at The Holiday Inn in Armação da Pêra on Tuesday, November 15 for its Special Christmas Fayre.
