Aqua Portimão invests €4 million in “ultramodern” food hall

Aqua Portimão says “ultramodern food hall” will be completed in 2024

Aqua Portimão is investing €4 million in an “ultramodern food hall” which it says will turn the shopping centre into a “gastronomic destination.”

The new 420sqm food hall is expected to be completed by the end of the first half of 2024 and is designed by “award-winning” international architecture studio Broadway Malyan.

According to the shopping centre’s management, the new food hall will be completely covered and will have 35 spaces for restaurants and food vendors.

The food hall will also feature different environments “marked by chromatic differences and vegetation,” as well as a stage for live performances.

The new covering is singled out as one of the most “innovative components” of the overhaul, as it was “designed to ensure thermal comfort throughout the year through exclusively natural ventilation.”

“This project is the realisation of a long-standing dream, the transformation and recreation of a space that is essential for our customers and for the shopping centre as a whole. The quality of the architectural and engineering project has allowed for the incorporation of very important innovations, especially when it comes to environmental and energetic aspects, as the air conditioning will be exclusively done naturally,” says Pedro Paixão, Deputy Head of Leasing at Klépierre, which manages Aqua Portimão.

Inaugurated in 2011, Aqua Portimão is located at one of the main entrances of Portimão and is the largest shopping centre in the Western Algarve (Barlavento), which Klépierre describes as “a region known for its growth and demographic and economic evolution.”
