The new, higher rate of the monthly supplement for active members of Portugal’s military, to €300 from the current €100, will start to be paid next month with retroactive effect to July 1, the Ministry of National Defence announced today. The increase will be phased in, from €300 this year, rising to €350 on January 1, 2025 and to €400 on January, 1 2026. In a statement, defence minister Nuno Melo, “underlines the fact that the Ministry of National Defence and the Government have carried out the largest combined increase in democracy (of) salaries, supplements, support in the event of incapacity or death in service of military personnel and reimbursement for the purchase of medicines for former combatants”. As we have already mentioned today, everything in the media right now is focusing (as much as it can) on the benefits put forwards by the PSD/CDS-PP government as the prospect of new legislative elections looms.
