An army captain – “inactive for medical reasons” – is appearing in court in Lisbon today after pointing a gun at police, who resorted to shooting in the air to effect his arrest. The incident began with the captain “starting to threaten a fuel station attendant” with his gun, writes Correio da Manhã. He then left the fuel station, without having caused any harm – but the attendant called police, who took very little time in arriving at the location in Avenida Mouzinho de Albuquerque. It was then that they tried to arrest the man, who ended up pointing his gun at them before finally relenting after police sent their shots into the air.
