Artificial intelligence debated in Portimão

Experts will debate the theme “Artificial Intelligence: A Tool for Improving Quality of Life?” at the Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes on February 20.

Portimão-based social, cultural and sports association Teia D’Impulsos is dedicating the second session of its Teia D’Ideias cycle to Artificial Intelligence.

The session, which will take place next Thursday, February 20, from 18h30, at Casa Manuel Teixeira Gomes in Portimão, will feature experts debating the topic, “Artificial Intelligence: A Tool for Improving the Quality of Life?”

With artificial intelligence’s constant growth in recent years, the topic has gained global significance. Teia D’Impulsos’ objective is to reflect on the impact that its development has on our daily lives, with an approach focused on its potential benefits for society.

Speakers will include:

Paulo Carrasco, coordinating professor at the School of Management, Hospitality and Tourism of the University of Algarve, where he teaches undergraduate and master’s courses, focusing on artificial intelligence, optimisation and decision support systems.

Rui Mesquita, a computer engineer with extensive experience in Smart City projects, a consultant in Technology, innovation, and Cybersecurity, a computer technician in the Municipality of Lagoa, where he coordinates the SmartCity: Lagoa project, and a teacher in higher education.

Carlos Café, master in Philosophy of Nature and the Environment and a professor in Portimão, has published two textbooks on Kant and the philosophy of science. He coordinated a petition with his students that resulted in the unanimous approval in the Assembly of the Republic for National Garden Day on 25 May, the birthday of architect Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles. He was one of the ten finalists for the Global Teacher Prize 2023.

The recorded testimony of Pedro Esteves, author of the book “Generative Artificial Intelligence with Confidence”, will also be presented.
