Asiatic mafia ‘covers debt with axes and nunchucks’

PJ police capture 4th member of group that violently attacked fellow countrymen

PJ police in Setúbal have arrested the 4th member of a ‘southwest asian’ group that left two fellow countrymen “at the doors of death” in Ermidas-Sado, Santiago do Cacém, in April last year.

This is yet another story in recent days that belies the official narrative that foreigners are not responsible for crime in Portugal. There is barely a day without reports of violent crime involving non-Portuguese. On Friday, the Algarve saw the ‘shooting’ close to a Lagos school, which it has since transpired involved a group of Spanish criminals wanted for drug trafficking, contraband and the possession of weapons. Days earlier saw murders perpetrated by Brazilian ‘mafias’ – and now the account of an ‘asiatic mafia’ that covers debts by beating people with axes, nunchucks* and metal bars.

Three of the members of this group were arrested in Odemira in October last year (Odemira having become a town transformed by immigration). Now, the fourth and final member, aged 31, has been arrested by detectives in Setúbal, and is being held in preventive custody, as is one of the other three arrested in October.

The attack took place at night on April 8 last year. The group allegedly knocked on their victims’ door, and when this was opened, set about attacking them. The victims spent several days in hospital. The attack is being prosecuted as attempted murder. The accused men are also charged with possession of prohibited weapons.

As to the nature of the debt that was allegedly being collected, there are no details.

*A nunchuck, or more correctly, a ‘nunchaku’ is a traditional East-Asian martial arts weapon consisting of two sticks (traditionally made of wood), connected to each other at their ends by a short metal chain or a rope.
