Australian Open: Borges through to third round; Faria eliminated by Djokovic

Nuno Borges has qualified for the third round of the Australian Open after eliminating home player Jordan Thompson this Wednesday.

The Portuguese player, ranked 33rd in the ATP Tour, won in three sets (6-3, 6-2 and 6-4) and will now face Spain’s wonderkid and world no.3 Carlos Alcaraz in the third round.

Meanwhile, Jaime Faria (125th) became the first Portuguese tennis player to win a set against Serbian tennis legend Novak Djokovic (7th), losing however in four sets – 6-1; 6-7; 6-3; 6-2.
