Authority for labour conditions investigates fatal accident in Bordeira (Aljezur)

Angolan worker killed on first day at rebuilding project

A fatal accident that seriously injured a second person on a building project in Bordeira (municipality of Aljezur) is under investigation by ACT, the authority for conditions at work.

On the face of it, this is a situation in which a wall came down, fatally injuring an Angolan worker, aged 34, and seriously injuring another worker from São Tomé.

ACT and the GNR will be verifying the conditions under which these two men were working.

The accident, which happened on Wednesday afternoon, killed the Angolan outright, and required the airlifting to hospital in Lisbon, according to CMTV, of the other man (aged given by differing sources as 24, and then, 37), reportedly in a very serious condition.

CMTV reports that it happened on the first day that the Angolan worker had joined the project.

The news channel suggests the injured man suffered traumatic head injuries “and the fracture of a limb” (not specifying further).

But for the helicopter to have transported the injured worker to Lisbon’s ‘hospital of reference’ Santa Maria suggests his injuries require extreme specialist attention.

Since then, there have been no further reports.

The building project in Bordeira has since been cordoned off to “avoid further accidents”, says CMTV.
