Autumn garden fair to run over two days at new venue

Gardening lovers in the Algarve have something to get excited about – their favourite event of the season, the Mediterranean Autumn Garden Fair, will be held over two days, October 26 and 27, at a new venue, the Fissul Exhibition Centre in Silves.

This year, the annual fair will be open two days to give visitors more time to enjoy the variety of plants on offer and also give nurseries an opportunity to bring more plants for Sunday. It will be possible to make a pre-order to collect at the event.

“Following the success of the spring event, we have been invited to hold the autumn fair in the dedicated FISSUL exhibition centreh,” said organisers, the Mediterranean Gardening Association Portugal. There will be more space for exhibitors, all under cover, and free extensive car parking.

“Our partner for this event will once again be the Freguesia of Silves, and we are very grateful to president Tito dos Santos Coelho and his team for their enthusiastic support.”

A special new feature at this event will be an extensive display of ornamental orchid species suitable for your Algarve garden and shady terraces. Orchids expert and author José Santos, also the president of the Orchid Society of Portugal, will talk at the event.

As a new attraction for this event, MGAP will also have an MGAP Plant Sales table organised by members with plants from their gardens and good advice about how to use them. There will also be a selection of Mediterranean bulbs for sale suitable for naturalising.

Visitors will find native plant nurseries and seeds for sale as well as ornamental and container plants; rare and unusual plants from arid and tropical zones; a display garden with fruit trees and herbs; and a range of succulents available both for the garden and for containers.

This is an opportunity to buy the most appropriate plants for your garden and benefit from the advice and guidance of the knowledgeable nursery owners, speakers and MGAP members.

A programme of free talks, workshops and demonstrations will be provided.

After completing their purchases, they can attend one of the free talks and take advantage of the plant créche where purchases can be left in safe hands while continuing to enjoy the many attractions of the day.

Hot refreshments and bar facilities will be available. There will also be a range of organic produce and products for sale and the MGAP stall offering new and second-hand specialist gardening books, wildflower seeds, advice and information.

Organisers are asking visitors to reduce plastic waste by bringing their own bags/boxes if possible.

Opening hours are from 10am to 6pm on Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

The Open Media Group, publishers of the Algarve Resident, are proud to be Media Partners of this event.
