Andrey Gugnin is “an exceptional Russian pianist” living in the West
The “Amigos de Música” (Friends of Music) group in the Algarve is presenting Andrey Gugnin – “an exceptional Russian pianist who since the beginning of the war in Ukraine decided to live in the West” – for their March concerts at Os Agostos country estate near, Santa Bárbara de Nexe.
Born in 1987, Andrey Gugnin studied at the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory and at the International Piano Academy at Lake Como in Italy, and has won several important piano competitions in Zagreb (Croatia), Italy, Spain and Vienna (Austria).
Since winning the Sidney International Piano Competition in 2016, Andrey Gugnin is a sought-after pianist travelling around the world.
More recently, Andrey also won the first prize at the 12th International Piano Competition in Kronberg, Germany, in November 2023.
His Delos recording of the Shostakovich concerti was used on the soundtrack of Steven Spielberg’s Oscar-winning film ‘Bridge of Spies’.
On Tuesday, March 12, Andrey will play works by Robert Schumann, Franz Liszt, and Igor Stravinsky, while on Thursday, February 14, he proposes a programme with works by L. van Beethoven, César Franck, Frédéric Chopin and Sergey Rachmaninov. For more programme details, visit www.amigosdemusica.org
All concerts will take place in the Auditorium of Os Agostos. Doors will open at 6pm and the concert will begin at 7pm. Wine, fruit juices and canapés will be available for self-service before the concert.
