Azores has been “breaking all records in terms of tourism” – regional secretary
Azores’ regional secretary for tourism, mobility and infrastructures believes 2024 “will be another year of excellent performance” for the region’s tourism – “a lever” for the archipelago’s economy.
Berta Cabral was discussing the “huge success” of the Azores’ presence at this year’s Lisbon Tourism Fair (BTL) – which took place in the capital last week.
While she is “very optimistic” about the future of tourism and its importance for the Azorean economy, she recognises, however, that “there are challenges arising from the current international situation”, writes Lusa.
“All of this moderates our forecasts, but we’re very convinced that 2024 will be another year of excellent performance, not least because the information we’ve gathered from the companies and professionals present at BTL is that they’re expecting another year of great success in the Azores”.
This year, the Azores were the guest national destination at BTL and the region’s stand, using the slogan “Azores All Year Round”, was visited by “several thousand people”.
“Professionals in the sector and the thousands of people who had the opportunity to learn about the best the Azores have to offer visitors” were “unanimous in recognising” the success of the Azores’ presence, which focused not only on the ‘all year round’ tourism of the archipelago, but the fact that it is rooted in sustainability
Berta Cabral warned, however, of the need to “permanently monitor economic, environmental and social sustainability”.
“Tourism is only good if it’s good for visitors and residents”, always taking into account the reality of each of the archipelago’s nine islands.
“We mustn’t forget that the Azores is a young destination,” she said.
