A MASSIVE worldwide balloon release is planned for today (Friday, June 22) to mark the 50th day of Madeleine McCann’s disappearance.
It will be the first event of a longer term campaign to find the little girl who disappeared from a holiday apartment in Praia da Luz on May 3.
Green and yellow balloons will be released into the sky from at least 50 centres throughout the world, including Argentina, El Salvador, US, Canada, Ireland, UK, Holland, Germany, Spain, South Africa, Kenya, United Arab Emirates, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and, of course, Portugal where Kate and Gerry McCann will be in Praia da Luz.
Meetings
A full list of countries can be obtained from the website http://www.findmadeleine.com/news/50thday/. The event is to mark the fact that Kate and Gerry, as well as many other parents around the world, are still searching for their missing children.
During the past week, Gerry has flown to London for a series of meetings to discuss ways of continuing the search for Madeleine.
While on his outbound flight, he helped a fellow passenger who had collapsed and needed treatment.
Shortly after arriving in the UK, Gerry McCann’s wallet was stolen, causing him to be late for his meetings.
“I did manage to get to all my meetings, which ran late into the evening. We had very good discussions regarding sustaining the search for Madeleine long term,” he said.
He added that he and his wife’s roles in the campaign will not be so public from now on – especially since they have to concentrate on protecting their other two children, Sean and Amelie.
Snapshots
Meanwhile, the McCanns are urging Irish holidaymakers to check their holiday snaps for possible clues.
Holidaymakers are being asked to upload their photos to the UK’s Child Exploitation website www.ceoupload.com. Mrs McCann said, “There has been so much support from Ireland. We’re overwhelmed. We’d reckon half the letters we have are from Irish people.”
