The Bank of Portugal used the last day of 2024 to publish the rules for giving mortgages to young people with a ‘public guarantee’. This is one of the measures pushed by the minority AD government but which has taken its time to be ‘accepted’ by the banking regulator. In doing so, the central bank continued with its warnings that banks conceding mortgage must assure the financial solvency of their clients. This is a measure that seeks to help young people up to the age of 35 buy their first home.
