Barão de São João to host new walking and art festival

Walking along the beautiful trails of the Algarve’s inland woods and marvelling at the works of local artists will be the main calling cards of the region’s new event, ‘Walk&Art Fest’.

Taking place between November 1 and 4 in Barão de São João near Lagos, the festival will promote a number of walks as well as several artistic activities, from workshops to exhibitions.

The event will take place in Barão de São João due to its “multicultural community, the proximity of the National Forest of Barão de São João and the thriving artistic community of the village” which is described as an “incubator for brilliant and creative minds”.

Organised by Lagos council and environmental association Almargem, the event will be included in the Algarve Walking Season (AWS) agenda which includes two other walking festivals – Walking Festival Ameixial and the Alcoutim Walking Festival.

The full programme has not yet been announced, although organisers say there will be environmental awareness activities for children and families, technical workshops, lectures, talks and eight to 10 daily walks which can either be short or long-distance hikes.

There will also be special walks spanning a number of themes and activities such as “birdwatching, botany, archaeology, geology and cultural heritage”.

People will be able to sign up for the activities very soon on the event’s website.
