“Barbaric” attack on Angolan embassy under investigation

A spokesperson for Portugal’s Angolan Embassy has described last Sunday’s vandalism against its premises in the Avenida da República in Lisbon as “barbaric”. Police are now investigating.

The embassy’s two main windows were shattered by flying rocks before dawn on Sunday morning. Security personnel claim it was “a group of unidentified individuals” who made off without trying to enter the building, but they did not actually see who was involved, and the embassy’s security cameras also revealed nothing.

As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned the attack, it has to be remembered that Portugal’s relationship with Angola suffered recently after Foreign Minister Rui Machete apologised for probes concerning suspicions of possible corruption into business deals involving senior Angolan officials.
