He had already guaranteed it, but now it is official – José Manuel Durão Barroso will not be running for president in Portugal’s upcoming presidential elections in 2016.
The European Commission president explained to BBC: “I’ve been in politics for nearly 30 years in a row. I think I need, or at least deserve, a break. I’ll be a free man starting November 1 and I’m very happy about that.”
