BES bank collapse trial pushed back to mid-June

The start of the trial in the BES/GES case has been postponed once again from May 28 to 18 June due to delays in notifying one of the defendants, the Superior Council of the Judiciary (SCJ) said today. This means it will have taken almost 10 years to get this trial to the point where it will start being heard. Considered one of the largest cases in the history of Portuguese justice, the case brings together in the main case 242 inquiries and complaints from more than 300 people residing in Portugal and abroad. According to the Public Prosecutor’s Office the collapse of the Espírito Santo Group caused losses of more than €11.8 billion.
