Portuguese wine Vega Douro Tinto, of 2009, was elected by the Wine Enthusiast magazine as number one in the 2012’s ‘Best Buy’ category.
The 2009 Vega Douro, produced by DFJ Vinhos, a wine production company from Cartaxo, Santarém, is the first Portuguese wine to attain first place of the top hundred ‘Best Buy’ wine list.
In a press release, the company states: “In 2012, the Wine Enthusiast experts tasted 17,000 wines, giving the ‘Best Buy’ label to just 1,134. From those with the Best Buy award, they selected the hundred of the best, and of those the best of all was Vega Douro Tinto 2009.”
DFJ has had wines on the ‘Best Buy’ top 100 every year since 2005, and in 2012 had 29 listed. Last year, their Grand’Arte Alvarinho 2010 was the first Portuguese white wine to reach the top 10.
An exclusively Portuguese company, DFJ exports 95% of their annual production of six million bottles, and has already twice won the award for Red Wine of The Year, in London, and in 2012 won the award for best Portuguese wine company in the US, at the New York International Wine Competition.
