Bicycle thief caught red-handed in Tavira

Police found a stash of stolen goods in his house worth €80,000

A 51-year-old man was caught red-handed and arrested on April 1 for stealing several bicycles in Tavira.

The man was tracked down by the local GNR police after following multiple complaints from locals about a string of bicycle thefts in the area.

The arrest was followed by a search of the suspect’s home, which uncovered a substantial stash of stolen goods valued at around €80,000. Among the recovered items were eight electric bicycles, three conventional bicycles, several cycling accessories and equipment, a self-defence aerosol spray, a dagger, two walkie-talkie radios, seven television sets and six vehicles.

The suspect has been formally named as an ‘arguido’ (defendant) and the case has been referred to the Judicial Court of Faro.
