Birdwatching has increasingly revitalised the tiny Azores island of Corvo. Currently being showcased at the Lisbon tourist fair, the island started seeing birdwatchers arriving roughly a decade ago. These days, they are a regular feature on the island, bringing with them a much needed boost to the local economy. Mayor José Manuel Silva tells Lusa, the beauty of birdwatching on Corvo is that it is most popular during the winter months (when the island normally would be pretty much left to its own devices). Now it regularly has groups of birdwatchers arriving from all over the world, filling the local hotels/ guest houses and restaurants.
