BMW to recall 13,000 Portuguese cars over “airbag concerns”

German car company BMW has announced that it will be recalling around 13,000 cars of its 3 Series in Portugal due to concerns over a possible defect in the airbag systems.
The recall is valid for cars made during the period from 2000 to 2006.
Vehicle owners will be informed if their car is one of those affected, an official source for BMW Portugal told news agency Lusa. The vehicle will then be repaired in a free “hour-long procedure”.
So far no airbag issues have been reported in BMW vehicles, said the source – but since issues have been reported in other vehicles equipped with the same systems, the company has decided on a global recall.
In all, BMW will be fixing 1.6 million cars throughout the world.
The ‘scare’ comes weeks after Honda Portugal also announced it would be recalling 5,000 vehicles nationwide due to “faulty airbags”.
