Body found in Arade River in Portimão

The body of a man was found in the Arade River in Portimão. Authorities have not confirmed that it is the man who has been missing since Thursday.

According to a source from the National Maritime Authority (AMN), a body was discovered on Monday floating in the Arade River near Portimão’s Doca Pesca (fishing port) in what seems to be linked to the disappearance of a man last Thursday, as reported by Lusa.

The 29-year-old man who disappeared on Thursday allegedly got into difficulties while returning from practising stand-up paddleboarding on the Arade River in the dredged area south of the Doca Pesca. The friend who was with the victim and was wearing a life jacket managed to return to shore and raise the alarm.

An AMN source indicated that at 18h25 on Monday, an alert was issued as a body was spotted near the fishing port, but did not confirm if it was the individual who had gone missing.

Upon arrival at the scene, a Ferragudo Lifeguard Station crew collected and transported the body to the Doca Pesca. Firefighters later transported it to the National Institute of Legal Medicine and Forensic Sciences in Portimão after contacting the Public Prosecutor’s Office, and the Judiciary Police carried out the investigations.

The AMN has stated that the Maritime Police Psychology Office is continuing to offer assistance to the family of the victim who disappeared.
