Body found in scrubland close to Lisbon’s São Francisco Xavier hospital

A body in such advanced stages of decomposition that authorities initially said they were not able to determine whether it was male or female has been found in scrubland close to Lisbon’s São Francisco Xavier hospital. PSP police were called to the discovery shortly before 11am today. The case has passed into the hands of PJ judicial police – and subsequent reports suggest the body is that of a 73-year-old woman who was waiting to be attended in A&E, and who went inexplicably missing in December. It seems the yellow triage bracelet was identified around one of the body’s wrists. This is a tragic story, as the woman’s husband had been ‘with her’ at the time, but was not allowed to accompany her into the waiting room. More no doubt will follow about this sad discovery over the next few hours.
