The body of a man believed to be of Dutch nationality was found inside a Dutch-plated motorhome which had been destroyed by a fire near the Odivelas dam in Ferreira do Alentejo, Beja.
Reports Correio da Manhã tabloid, the burnt-out vehicle was found on Wednesday at around 6pm by GNR police agents who were patrolling the area.
Inside the vehicle they found the remains of the victim and his dog. The case was reported to the GNR’s investigation unit, which later handed it over to Faro’s PJ police.
PJ detectives reportedly found no signs of criminal activity and believe the cause of the fire to be “accidental”.
Portuguese authorities have already contacted the Dutch Embassy in Lisbon in a bid to identify the victim.
As CM points out, the Odivelas dam is located near the EN257 road and is “very popular” among foreign motorhomers.
