Young man had been missing since Saturday
The search for a 25-year-old missing fisherman came to a tragic end this Thursday morning (October 24) when his body was found at Bordeira beach in Aljezur.
Authorities were called to the beach after the body was spotted at around 8am floating at the beach’s surf zone – the area where waves break as they approach the shore.
The body has been identified as that of the young man who went missing on Saturday (October 20) after reportedly falling into the sea while fishing at Bordeira beach, Lagos port commander Hugo da Guia told Lusa news agency.
He added that the body was due to be taken to the Portimão legal medicine office to undergo an autopsy in order to determine the cause of death, after the death was confirmed on-site by the local health delegate.
Maritime police’s psychology office is providing support to the family of the victim, says a statement on Portugal’s national maritime authority (AMN) website.
