Body of octogenarian found floating at Albufeira beach

The cause of the man’s death is still unknown

The body of an 87-year-old man was found floating at Maria Luísa beach in Albufeira on Tuesday afternoon (July 16).

Authorities were alerted by at 6.42pm by lifeguards on duty at the beach who spotted the body floating in the sea. After removing the man from the water, the lifeguards tried but were unable to revive him. 

Members of Portimão’s maritime police, INEM emergency services and Albufeira firefighters also rushed to the scene, where the man’s death was declared by an INEM doctor. The boy was transported to the national institute of legal medicine n Portimão after receiving the ‘okay’ from the Albufeira department of investigation and penal action (DIAP).

The victim’s family received support from maritime police’s psychology office, the national maritime authority (AMN) said in a statement. So far, the circumstances surrounding the man’s death are unclear, the maritime authority added.
