34-year-old fell while out walking with partner
The body of a 34-year-old Ukrainian woman who fell to her death from a cliff in Vila do Bispo on Saturday evening was recovered on Sunday morning by firefighters.
According to reports, the alert was sounded shortly after 7pm, by the woman’s male companion.
It was dark at the time, thus recovery was impossible. But the body was able to be located by drone, allowing firefighters to plan the next day’s recovery.
The operation was supported by sea and air, say reports, with an Air Force helicopter also involved.
Publishing photographs of the recovery on Facebook, Vila do Bispo firefighters explained that they were in fact called out “almost simultaneously” on Saturday evening to respond to two emergency calls from cliffs. One of the incidents was at Ponta dos Arquises, Sagres, while the tragedy in Vila do Bispo happened at the site known as Torre de Aspa.
The Ponta de Arquises operation involved rescuing two fishermen, which was carried out with success.
