Pregnant Mónica Silva, 33, has been missing since October 3, 2023
The discovery of a body of a woman, in a suitcase ‘abandoned’ near Vigo, Spain, has rekindled hope in the long-running search for missing mother-of-two Mónica Silva, seven-months pregnant with her third child when she went missing from her home in Murtosa, northern Portugal, last October.
Vigo, in Spanish Galicia, is roughly a two-hour journey from Murtosa, where Mónica Silva was last seen, but it is close enough for her family to be anxious to hear more details.
These have been coming through during the course of the last few days, and according to a quite recent report by noticiasaominuto it is not looking as if this body is that of missing Mónica.
“The woman found dead inside a suitcase in Vigo was the victim of a fatal stab wound to the heart”, according to an autopsy the results of which were published today, says the online. “The victim appears to have been in her 50s and of short stature”.
The body was discovered in a scrubland area on Thursday. It was half-naked, rolled in plastic film, and trussed up with ropes in a brown suitcase that was also plastered in plastic film.
It was also ‘very decomposed’, suggesting death will have occurred “between six to eight months ago” – again, not corresponding to missing Mónica Silva.
Further forensic testing however is due to take place.
What adds the mystery is the fact that there have been no missing persons reports that correspond to the body in the area. Vigo police do have two inquiries ongoing into missing women, says noticiasaominuto, but “in both cases, the dates of the disappearance and death do not coincide”.
