Boliqueime hosts exhibition on ‘Algarvian car’

‘Algarvian car’ – the expression used to describe the region’s old animal-drawn carts

An exhibition focusing on the ‘Carro Algarvio‘ – which literally translates into ‘Algarvian Car‘ but means the region’s old animal-drawn carts – will be inaugurated this Saturday (August 10) at 6pm in Boliqueime.

The exhibition – which will run until September 10 at the assembly room of the parish council of Boliqueime, located in the town’s former primary school – will provide an “analysis of the origin and evolution of the Algarvian car (…) and its importance to the region from an economic and social point of view, until the last quarter of the last century,” organisers say.

“It is an opportunity to dive into the history of the region and get to know the variants and construction specificities of this means of transport,” they add.

Curators Francisco Oliveira Martins, Maria do Céu Oliveira Martins, Emanual Sancho and Francisco Lameira are the driving forces behind the exhibition, which is supported by the Boliqueime parish council and Loulé municipal council.

The exhibition can be visited on weekdays from 2pm to 5pm. Admission is free.
