Bores, the desert lynx, is on his way home!

Petition demanding Bores’ release amassed over 20,000 signatures

Bores, the deseret lynx, ‘removed’ from the only home he ever knew to be shut up in a cage below a slide at a water park, has been released following popular outrage.

A snowballing petition, outlining how and why Bores came to be taken from his owners and comparative freedom in a home and fenced land in Madeira, raised more than 20,000 signatures in a matter of days – and almost certainly helped prompt this decision.

That said, ‘authorities’ – the IFCN: institute of forestries and nature conservation – has outlined, in a post over social media, its reasons for ‘the apprehension’, and for finally allowing Bores home.

In the post it is clear that Bores’ return will run along the lines set out in the petition: his owners will face some form of censure for the purchase of a wild animal – but making the wild cat pay (in misery) for their mistake has been accepted as ‘not the answer’.

The IFCN’s post explains that medical advice encouraged the animal’s return to his owners, while there is no entity prepared to take Bores in.

Ajuda a Alimentar Cães, the association that started the petition rolling, wrote over Facebook last night: “We did it! Bores isn’t home yet, but he will be soon. It is love that distinguishes us, and love that always wins. Sticking together makes us stronger; we are the proof of this. Thank you everyone who has fought alongside us”.
