Bouncing back: former governor of Madeira announces he will be standing again…

Just as predicted a couple of days ago, Miguel Albuquerque – the former governor of Madeira and an official suspect in the corruption probe that scuttled the archipelago’s PSD government – has ‘guaranteed’ that he will be a candidate to lead the government in caretaker mode while the law precludes snap elections. Albuquerque’s position was strengthened by the decision last week of a judge of criminal instruction to release all three men arrested in the probe because he (the judge) could see no evidence that they had acted in a corrupt fashion. The Public Prosecutor’s Office has said it is appealing – and the situation has seen various figures lament “the crisis in Justice”…
