Braga activates contingency plan for homeless people due to cold weather

Portugal’s northern city of Braga on Saturday activated a contingency plan for homeless people due to the forecast of cold weather, local media reported.

With temperatures varying between 0ºC and -2ºC between January 2 and January 6, the municipality of Braga said homeless people will benefit from the Emergency Housing Center (CAE) as well as the Zone of Concentration and Support for the Population (ZCAP), and that there will be teams of people on the street to assist them.

This plan went into effect at 7 pm on Saturday and goes on until 9 am on January 7.  After this period, an update of the weather forecast will be made and the plan might be extended.

Sixteen of the 18 districts of mainland Portugal are on Sunday under yellow warning due to cold weather, according to the Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere (IPMA).
