Air link was suspended in September due to a government debt
The Portuguese government has guaranteed that the Portimão-Bragança air link will be reinstated before Christmas.
So said the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, who attended a meeting at the Intermunicipal Community of Trás-os-Montes (CIMTMM) on Tuesday, in which the air link was one of the main topics of discussion.
The Sevenair Group stopped operating the air link in September due to the non-payment of the service by the State, which has amassed a total debt of €3.8 million.
The suspension of the service – which includes stops in Vila Real, Viseu and Cascais – was criticised by local leaders, with the mayor of Vila Real considering it “damaging to the economy, tourism and mobility of the entire region”.
While the resumption of the air link has not yet been officially confirmed by the government, the president of CIMTMM has told the press that it will be reinstated “in December, before Christmas.”
Sevenair is expected to operate the air link once again.
