The Granjinhos fountain in the city of Braga, built in 1509 by order of the city’s archbishop, has been classified as a monument of municipal interest, according to a notice published today in government gazette Diário da República. The fountain has stood for over 450 years in the old Rua dos Granjinhos, which connected the square today called Largo Carlos Amarante to the now demolished church of São Lázaro. In the 1960s, it was moved to the wall of the courtyard of the chapel of São Sebastião, next to Largo Paulo Orósio, because work to extend the city’s hospital clashed with the layout of Rua dos Granjinhos. In March 2016, the fountain was dismantled and moved next to Palácio do Raio, very close to its original location.
