Brisa embraces technology; PCP communists rush to attack

Motorway concession holder Brisa is ‘embracing technology’ with a plan to ‘modernise payment methods’ at toll stops on the highways it runs. Jornal de Notícias has interpreted the news as the company “could reduce the number of workers at toll  booths even more”. PCP communists have leapt to the bait, demanding to know whether Brisa is in breach of its contractual obligations. The government (and Brisa) have stressed that this is not a plan to reduce staff; just to ‘agilise payment methods’ for those who prefer dealing with machines. Manned toll booths will continue.
