APAA, the Association for Protection of Animals Algarve, is pushing ahead with its successful SNiP operation.
SNiP is the Spaying and Neutering Programme, adopted and adapted over the years to get the number of dogs and cats at a minimum level, street-wise, but also for re-homing abandoned animals, which is the reason why APAA are in existence!
With the help of active members and followers, they are able to continue with their important work. Veterinary fees and clinical help are expensive but necessary. As Jenny Clarke, President of APAA, tells us, “animals in need are APAA’s main focus”.
Pop-Up success
We had an excellent turn out for our first season’s Pop-Up at O Tasco in Senhora do Verde (Portimão). Anita was kept busy throughout the extended sale period. Look out for our next Pop-Up event. Eyes peeled for October’s grand slam of a sale, promising to be an extra special Pop-Up with classical and antique pieces. Who knows what’s in store for that savvy, in-the-know buyer? APAA is certainly travelling in the fast lane.
World Animal Day lunch
APAA’s next lunch will be for World Animal Day. This is a special occasion hosted by Jackie in her back garden, north of Portimão, on Tuesday, October 4, at 1pm. The vegetarian luncheon includes scrummy cucumber soup, quiche, goat’s cheese tart and dessert. Members €20, non-members €22. A SNiP of a bargain lunch with wine, beer or water. Limited to 30 seats, so book now.
When Queen Elizabeth II died, her son Andrew took in her two Corgis and Cocker Spaniel at his home in Windsor. Also finding themselves a new place to hang out, ‘Beth’ and ‘Bluebell’, Jack Russells from Battersea Dogs Home, landed a top job with Charles III and his Queen Consort Camilla. They are yet to find out whether they will have an abode at Clarence House or Buckingham Palace, occasionally travelling with them to Highgrove. So, if we have any dog snobs out there, abandonees, apparently, are of the highest quality and fit for royalty! Check them out. They come with a full heart, love and loyalty, in exchange for a dish or two of food, a treat, some clean water, and a little exercise. APAA should know, and obviously so do the Royals!
