Cardiovascular drugs cost €1 million a day

Portugal’s National Health Service (SNS) spent more than €1 million a day last year on publicly-funded cardiovascular medicine. A study by the national medicine authority confirmed that the consumption of cardiovascular drugs has “increased significantly”. According to a news report published by Infarmed, the national authority for medicines and health products, in 2011, 30% of the total expenses incurred by the SNS related to cardiovascular drugs administered at hospitals.
