A 47-year-old Carvoeiro shopkeeper hoarding a private arsenal on his business premises has been arrested for domestic violence.
According to the GNR police, the Portuguese man was found to be in possession of guns, ammunition, two katana cleavers and a sharp ‘artefact’ with a wooden handle.
His wife of two years shopped her husband to police, alleging domestic violence.
The arrest was made by Faro’s NIAVE squad – the GNR force set up to protect victims of violence.
It was the squad’s 17th arrest of 2014 – a year marked by domestic violence up and down the country (see: https://www.portugalresident.com/death-plunge-%E2%80%9Caccident%E2%80%9D-another-tragic-case-of-domestic-violence).
As Portugal counts the cost of 2014’s incidents of domestic violence, the shopkeeper in this case is due to appear before Portimão’s Public Prosecutor.
