Carvoeiro celebrates summer’s arrival in black and white

Carvoeiro Black & White Night will celebrate its 10th edition this Saturday

Carvoeiro is preparing to host one of the biggest parties of the year this Saturday (June 15) – the Black & White Night.

The event is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, having grown in just one decade from a new local party to one of the most anticipated free parties in Portugal.

Acting as the (un)official start of the summer season in the Algarve, the Black & White Night annually attracts over 30,000 people to the beachside town with its selection of live performances, DJ sets and street entertainment.

Dressing in black and white is highly encouraged as the town’s streets are also stylishly decorated in line with the event’s name.

The party takes place along the three main streets – Rua dos Pescadores, Rua do Barranco and Estrada do Farol – with stages set up at strategic locations, including Carvoeiro’s beachside square and the Nossa Senhora da Encarnação chapel.

Visitors will have an eclectic variety of entertainment to enjoy, from a quartet performing classical music to live dance performances, fire shows, a silent party, and several DJ sets (SEE PROGRAMME BELOW).

Festivities will begin at 8.30pm and run late into the night.

Similarly to previous edition, the municipal council of Lagoa will be offering free bus trips between Carvoeiro and several car parks in Lagoa near Fatacil, Intermarché, Apolónia, Aldi and Gramital (land located in front of the Aldi supermarket). Round-trip buses will run continuously from 6pm to 4am.

The council has also announced that parking will be prohibited between 7am on Friday, June 14 and 4am on Sunday, June 16 on Rua dos Pescadores, Rua do Barranco, Estrada do Farol and Rampa da Senhora da Encarnação, which will be closed to traffic between 6pm on Saturday, June 15 and 4am on Sunday, June 16. Carvoeiro’s Black & White Night was “timidly” launched in 2014, says the municipal council of Lagoa, with the goal of “strengthening hotel occupation in the borough” during a time which is still not considered to be the region’s high season, as well as to increase the “touristic visibility of Carvoeiro on a national and international level.”
