A “pioneering” deal granting Castro Marim council the authority to manage its own health resources was forged during a meeting with health officials this week.
Not only will it allow the borough to reopen the Azinhal and Odeleite health units – closed for five months – it will see the council “reimbursed” for costs it has incurred with its ‘door-to-door’ mobile health service, transportation of patients, anti-smoking campaigns and cataract operations.
The deal is still not official but will be signed in April, says the council.
The agreement came during a meeting on Wednesday (March 18) with Assistant Secretary of State for Health Fernando Leal da Costa and ARS president João Moura Reis.
Speaking to Lusa news agency, Amaral revealed that the renovation project for the Azinhal unit has already been completed and construction work should begin soon.
