Castro Marim Mayor wants passengers arriving at Faro Airport to be tested for Covid-19

Castro Marim Mayor Francisco Amaral, who is also a doctor, is urging the government to test all passengers arriving at Faro Airport for Covid-19 or request proof of having tested negative recently.

Amaral fears that arriving holidaymakers could bring the virus into the country, leading to an “uncontrollable and even chaotic” spread of Covid-19 in a region where the situation is “stable and under control”.

The mayor warns of the devastating effect this could have on people’s health as well as the region’s “already depleted economy”.
