Castro Marim pool revamp aimed at “reducing consumption of fossil fuels”
The municipal pool of Castro Marim reopened on Monday (July 8) following several investments and renovations works carried out by the local council, aimed at “reducing the consumption of fossil fuels.”
The works included the installation of a biomass boiler to heat the pool tank and a new solar thermal system with forced circulation, focusing on “reducing energy consumption” and “enhancing the building’s energy sustainability”.
Thermal insulation was also applied to the pool’s flat roof to “significantly reduce heat losses during the heating season” and “minimise heat gains during the cooling season, without compromising waterproofing and sealing.” Meanwhile, the interior lighting of the building was improved to achieve “greater energy efficiency.”
The local council adds that the pool has reopened by welcoming children and young people from the “Active Holidays” initiative and the community in general, with swimming lessons starting in September.
