Castro Marim unveils heart-shaped containers for bottle caps

The caps can be collected by those who plan to use them for charitable causes by contacting the local council

Five heart-shaped containers have been set up in Castro Marim in an original effort to collect plastic bottle caps.

The local council has explained the thought process behind the campaign: “Many people separate plastic bottle caps so that they can be donated to charity campaigns and causes and transformed into donations. They are often placed in improvised containers, located in public facilities, companies, gardens, or schools.”

However, these “improvised containers” often end up “damaged and forgotten,” the council says. Thus these new containers were created, fitting in with the theme of a new municipal campaign entitled ‘A❤Mar – Love Happens Here’.

The containers can be found in Castro Marim at Praça 1 de Maio and near the Castro Marim School Group, and in Altura at the beach, at the municipal market and along Avenida 24 de Junho.

Anyone who uses plastic bottle caps for charitable causes can apply to collect the donated bottle caps by contacting the local council (+352 281 510 740) or by filling in a form which can be found on the council’s website.

The local council is asking citizens to place bottle caps in the new containers and “not randomly in public spaces”. The bottle caps must be made of plastic. Cork caps, jerry can caps, caps from hazardous products, and caps from paint, varnish, or grease packaging are not accepted.
