With the future of the government in his hands, President Cavaco Silva still finds time and ways to turn people’s attention away from Portugal’s political crisis. On a trip to Madeira this week, Cavaco praised the archipelago’s bananas, saying they are “bigger and tastier” than the mainland’s. Surrounded by journalists, the president was speaking to Madeira leader Miguel Albuquerque onboard the Bartolomeu Dias frigate.
