Central government to pay 85% of costs to restore Azores main hospital

Portugal’s central government has agreed to contribute 85% of the costs of rehabilitating the Divino Espírito Santo Hospital in Ponta Delgada, which was devastated by a fire earlier this month rendering it still out of service. President of the Azores regional government, José Manuel Bolieiro, announced today that “central government, namely the prime minister, has agreed to contribute to the costs of the immediate and future operation at the Hospital do Divino Espírito Santo: an 85% contribution, and the respective advance this year, of what is estimated (in relation to) costs, to be paid by the end of the year.” Bolieiro warned however that the recovery of the archipelago’s largest health unit, located on the island of São Miguel, “will be slow and gradual, because it has to be safe.”
